How We Calculate Your Calories
Our simulator uses the ACSM (American College of Sports Medicine) metabolic equations, which are widely recognized as the gold standard for estimating energy expenditure during walking and running.
The Formula
We calculate your oxygen consumption (VO2) based on your speed and the grade of terrain (assumed flat). Then, we convert this VO2 into calories burned using your body weight.
- Walking Equation: Used for speeds under 7 km/h (approx 4.3 mph).
- Running Equation: Used for speeds over 7 km/h.
Why Stride Length Matters
We estimate your stride length based on your height and gender. This allows us to accurately convert your step count into distance traveled, providing a more precise calorie burn estimate than generic calculators.
